CAMRT Radiography Practice Exam

The CAMRT certification exam is built on a competency-based model, and CAMRT is explicit that this trips up a specific group of candidates: those who trained in an education system using knowledge-based, direct-recall testing. This exam asks how you'd apply your knowledge in an actual clinical situation, not what the textbook says. Studying "what does the textbook say" prepares you for the wrong kind of question here.

The exam: 185 multiple-choice questions, 4 hours, computer-based through Yardstick, offered three times a year. Choose an approved Test Centre or remote proctoring. Radiological Technology and Magnetic Resonance exams come in both English and French, and you can toggle between language versions question by question.

Passing score isn't a fixed universal number. It's set by a discipline-specific Exam Validation Committee of 8 to 10 CAMRT members using a modified Angoff method: experts rate each question by estimating what percentage of minimally competent, entry-level technologists would answer it correctly, and the passing standard is built from those ratings. The bar reflects real-world competency expectations rather than an arbitrary round number.

You get four total attempts within a five-year window, one initial write plus three rewrites. Access the Quebec certification exam (OTIMROEPMQ) too, and that's a combined total of four attempts across both, not four each.

Eligibility requires graduating from an accredited MRT program (magnetic resonance, nuclear medicine, radiological technology, or radiation therapy) within the last 5 years, or completing CAMRT's assessment process for international training.

CAMRT sells its own official practice exam for $75, 100 sample questions and three practice attempts on the same Yardstick platform you'll use for the real exam, a legitimate resource worth knowing about.

Given the competency-based format, practicing with scenario and application-style questions matches how this exam is actually built. Straight recall study, however thorough, doesn't fully prepare you for questions asking what you'd do in a given clinical situation.
